Crisis Core explained the backstory of the Buster Sword.
What's notable about this scene is that Zack is carrying the Buster Sword, which he shouldn't own, as Cloud already has it. The post-credits scene shows Zack traveling to the church in Midgar where he hopes to find Aerith. The INTERmission DLC adds a new scene with Zack, but it has raised even more questions about the original story.
FF7 Remake's Zack scene has a moment where Stamp (the Shinra mascot, who is a cartoon dog) is shown to be a different breed, suggesting his scenes happened in an alternate reality. Aerith has a vision of the two traveling back to the city. The ending of FF7 Remake also included a strange scene where Zack Fair is shown defeating the Shinra army and making his way back to Midgar with Cloud.
